Marcus Pembrey is Chairman of the Progress Educational Trust. He is Professor of Paediatric Genetics at the Institute of Child Health in London and Visiting Professor of Paediatric Genetics at Bristol University. He was advisor on genetics to the Chief Medical Officer for 9 years. Professor Pembrey has been chair of the Trustees of Progress Educational Trust since its establishment in 1992. Before that, he was President of PROGRESS, Campaign for Research into Human Reproduction, the precursor to the Progress Educational Trust.
Professor Pembrey does not believe that sex selection should be allowed for social reasons in the UK at the present time, but argues that the distinction between social and medical reasons is not always clear cut and some sort of flexibility will be required.
