Engaging young people The British Science Association's range of STEM enrichment activities aim to inspire and engage 5-19 year olds.
The UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair is an annual event for young people to exhibit outstanding research projects, often CREST projects, and compete for prizes. An evaluation of the Fair will become available in April 2008.
Engaging people of all ages The annual British Science Festival, one of the largest and longest-established science festivals in Europe, visits cities around the country, bringing hundreds of events for a range of audiences. The 2006 Festival evaluation (pdf 796KB) has been carried out by staff at the British Science Association.
The British Science Association's perspectives scheme is a poster competition for early-career researchers. They are encouraged to explore the social and ethical aspects of their research through their poster, which they then use to engage visitors to the British Science Festival. The evaluation of perspectives in 2007 (pdf 149KB) is available online.
The British Science Association's regional office in Wales ran two screenings of the film 'an Inconvenient Truth' in 2007. Two different styles of analysis were used for the June (pdf 109KB) and August (pdf 104KB) evaluations.
Engaging adult audiences The community x-change aims to provide opportunities for people to discuss issues (scientific and non-scientific) that they feel strongly about. Video reports about the project in East Anglia are available, and a full evaluation of the 3 year-long scheme will be online in 2009.
The British Science Association's Media Fellowships provide placements in media organisations for practising scientists, social scientists, clinicians and engineers. An evaluation (pdf 63KB) of the first 17 years of the project was carried out in 2004.
The evaluations here are the most up-to-date available. New evaluations will be added when they become available.
