The x-change
In the history of the BA Festival of Science, the x-change is a relatively new event, but its lively style and inclusive approach have made it a festival favourite. Below is where we've been since 2004.

Guildford- 2009
The 2009 x-change went with the British Science Festival to Guildford and the Chancellor's bar. Have a look at the fantasic x-change yearbook.

Liverpool- 2008
In 2008 The BA Festival of Science took place in Liverpool.  Host Sue Nelson and a brilliant team of volunteers brought the x-change to the Guild of Students' Saro-Wiwa bar.

Barcelona ESOF 2008
From 19 to 21 July 2008, the x-change took place at the Euroscience Open Forum in Barcelona.  Over 4000 particants from 63 countries and 450 speakers attended ESOF. The x-change offered a friendly, interactive and multi-disciplinary round-up of the best of ESOF, featuring an array of fascinating speakers talking about subjects from astronomy to zoology.

York- 2007
The BA Festival of Science 2007 took place in York, on the University's Heslington Campus.  The 2007 Festival x-change, hosted by Sue Nelson, featured each day's most exciting speakers and events.

Norwich- 2006
At the 2006 BA Festival of Science x-change in Norwich, hosted by Quentin Cooper, we explored Britain's place on the Moon, tackled climate change at grass roots, and challenged the audience to build the best brain.

London Dana Centre- 2006
2005, including a brief summary of the topics discussed, a list of speakers and their biographies. Events that took place before then can be found in the reports section.

The July x-change, entitled Climate Change, was webcast live.  Panellists Sir David King, Charlie Kronick and Sarah Mukherjee discussed the G8 communique, carbon sequestration and the role each of us can play in mitigating the effects of global warming.

The x-change in April, Cyber Solutions?, featured panellists Dr Blay Whitby, Dr Mark Lythgoe and Daniel Jackson.  The discussion covered the impacts of technology on society, focusing on the Internet in particular.

At the March x-change, Health, wealth & wellbeing, panellists Dr Evan Harris MP, Anjana Ahuja, Dr Rafiq Hasan and Dr Kathy Bamford discussed MRSA, bird flu and HIV/TB tests for immigrants.

The theme for the February x-change was Nanotechnology: is small beautiful?  The audience and panellists Professor Roger Whatmore, Alexis Vlandas, Richard Hollingham and Molly Webb discussed benefits, risks and regulation.

January x-change panellists Ian Sample and Dr Amelia Lake discussed diet, smoking and alcohol.

Munich ESOF 2006
In 2006, the x-change at ESOF took place in the science biergarten of the Forum am Deutschen Museum from 16-18 July.  There was the usual blend of the sublime and the ridiculous, including the top 10 freebies available in the exhibition hall as well a demonstration of a spoon that honey won't stick to, an eco-car and an unusual way to peel a banana!  Panellists over the three evenings included Jean-Patrick Connerade (France), the president of Euroscience, Stephen Minger (UK), a stem cell researcher, Yael Shahar (Israel) from the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism, Seema Kumar (USA), Vice President of Global Pharmaceutical R&D Communications at Johnson & Johnson, Ioannis Tarnanas (Greece), a developer of Virtual Reality systems and Frank Burnet (UK), a science communicator.

Dublin - 2005
In 2005, the x-change took place at the BA Festival of Science in Dublin.

Monday 5 September
