Science communicators: network, develop your skills and get involved in public events
The British Science Association runs a number of programmes and events of interest to people involved in communicating science.
Our Science in Society team in particular coordinate a number of relevant activities, such as the Science Communication Conference, that addresses the key issues facing science communicators in the UK. Each year it brings together people who are interested in public engagement. It is a fantastic opportunity to network, share ideas and good practice.
We also produce a quarterly magazine, People & Science, highlighting public engagement in science. Written by leading figures inside and outside the community, it provides a challenging and authoritative update on progress in the field.
The Festival is held in September, hosted by a different university city every year, and attracts over 350 speakers and thousands of visitors.
National Science and Engineering Week, which takes place in March, is a coordinated nationwide grassroots celebration and discussion of all aspects of science, engineering and technology through local, regional and national events. It is aimed at public audiences at all levels, with a particular emphasis on young people and families.
There are many opportunities to get involved, from organising your own event, to contributing to one of the mass participation activities that we run.
As a nationwide organisation, we are supported by 27 volunteer branches across the UK. Our branches organise events and bring science into the heart of local communities. Find out about your local branch, how you can become involved and what’s on in your area.
If you have your own science or engineering event planned, then we can help publicise it via our online events programme.
