The CREST Award Scheme is a nationally recognised, project-based scheme which can be used to support the Programme of Study for science at GCSE.
How Science Works is key to the new programme of study for science. How Science Works includes:
CREST projects at every level (bronze, silver and gold) enable students to develop the knowledge and skills listed above whilst pursuing their own interests.
CREST Profile Forms are provided to all students to complete as they work through their CREST Award. The CREST Profile Forms helps the student to plan their investigation and to record a summary of what has been carried out.
Completing a Bronze CREST Award at the end of year 9 can prepare students for "how science works" at Key Stage 4.
Through a mentoring system, the CREST scheme builds links between schools and industry or higher education. Through the mentoring process, students will learn about the way science and scientists work within society.
Students must submit their projects for the CREST Regional Fair. At these events, students have the opportunity to display their work and demonstrate their communication skills, at the same time as competing for prizes. Outstanding projects are selected for the prestigious National Fair.
