What is the British Science Festival? The British Science Festival (formerly the BA Festival of Science) is one of Europe's largest science festivals, taking place each September. The Festival is in a different location in the UK each year, bringing you the latest in science, technology and engineering. There is a dedicated schools programme which is fun and engaging with lots of shows and workshops that you can participate in.
The 2010 Festival takes place on the 14th-19th September in Birmingham.
How can I get involved through CREST? Several activities in the schools programme (described below) are CREST accredited. That means any student attending can either get part of or a whole CREST award through either the CREST star scheme (5-12), or CREST (11-19)
What is there available for young people? Throughout the Festival there are many opportunities for young people of all ages and their parents/teachers to get involved.
The weekend sees lots of family activities for people of all ages to visit and take part in. From exciting and fun finding out activities to exploring different ideas, all the activities are aimed at getting people to enjoy and appreciate science in its many forms.
The festival also contains the schools programme which is four packed days of talks, workshops and shows for Keystage 2/3 and 4/5 students from any school or college, and of course home educated students are very welcome. All activities are inspiring and interactive, help the students explore subjects in and around the national curriculum and support their skills development.
