The Government has recently announced that the Science and Engineering Clubs pilot will be expanded, from September 2008, to include an additional 250 schools.

Matthew Tosh, the Science and Engineering Clubs Co-ordinator said "The expansion of the clubs pilot is excellent news. There is some really inspiring work going on in clubs up and down the country and I am looking forward to more schools having this opportunity."

The Science and Engineering Clubs pilot is run by a consortium of partners, including the British Science Association. STEMNET is managing the project on behalf of the consortium and is currently working with the DCSF to agree plans for this expansion. Once these plans are agreed, STEMNET will be working with a number of partner organisations to develop a list of those schools where current data suggests that the introduction of a Science and Engineering Club would have the most benefit to a school, particularly in terms of progression to post-16 study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects. The ultimate decision though about the schools to be offered the funding will lie with the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
