Pupils Celebrate the Excitement of Science
GOld winners from Congleton High School

On June 28th pupils from schools around the North West attended the BA CREST regional awards, held at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester.  This event, sponsored by AstraZeneca, is one of many regional Crest finals that have been happening across the UK.

Congleton High School won the Gold Crest Award. The team of Mathieu, Edward, Peter and Stephanie presented their project, entitled ‘Containment for Pall Filter Change’ which won them each an iPod and their school a cheque for £200, along with a DNA molecule trophy.

Winners in the silver category were Manchester Girls High School with their research into ‘Methods for Extracting DNA from Fruit’. In the Bronze category, the winners were Beech House School, Rochdale, who carried out a project called ‘Battery Investigation’.

Guest of Honour Sir Mike Tomlinson, advisor to the Government, congratulated everyone who had taken part for the enormous amount of effort and time they had given to their projects.

The Bronze, Silver and Gold winners are all awarded a place at the prestigious BA Crest Science Fair, where they will have the opportunity to compete against students from different regions of the UK for top prizes.
