What did the 2009 Media Fellows get up to?

As well as their placements, the 2009 Media Fellows attended the British Science Festival at the University of Surrey in Guildford.

Pat Monaghan was at The Scotsman. She wrote a number of articles, for example, one on puffins and another on the national reserve status of an estate in Scotland.

David Schley was based with Times Higher Education. Amongst other things he wrote about green aircraft and data management.

Fiona Tomkinson was based at Nature. She has blogged dubious research results and wrote a news item about raindrops.

Griet Scheldeman was at the BBC. She wrote science news articles for the BBC website - here are two examples about songbirds and comets. She also put together some 'packages' for BBC Radio 4's Leading Edge.

Sudeep Chand was at the BBC, he wrote about the UK Space Agency and climate change scepticism for their website.

Mark Sergeant spent time at The Mirror and the Science Media Centre. Amongst other things, he blogged for The Mirror and wrote for the British Science Association website at the Festival about selenium and human attraction.

Jeremy O'Brien was at the Irish Times, writing about bumblebees and planets. He also managed to get some coverage of one of his own papers about quantum computing.

Simon Choppin blogged for the Guardian, covering topics close to his own research, sports engineering, see Usain Bolt, as well as other areas, for example solar sails.

Lori Frater was at BBC Wales and worked on their green season

Kate Mandeville was at The Times, writing about the Andromeda galaxy and appropriately enough, given her medical background, medical students.

Rosie Chance was at BBC Countryfile. She also wrote a number of articles for the British Science Association website at the Festival, for example about bones and cancer treatments. Rosie also has her own blog.
