About the role

The British Science Association is recruiting Event Assistants to work during the British Science Festival 2022. The Festival will be held in Leicester city centre and at Leicester De Montfort University from 13-17 September 2022, hosted by De Montfort  University. This role is based in Leicester.

Event Assistants will work as part of a team of two, along with an AV/IT Assistant providing customer service for Festival attendees and the speakers/organisers of Festival events. Event Assistants will work at several different events throughout the day. 

Job Description - Main duties

  • Check tickets and record event attendees, and deal with queries from members of the public/ attendees
  • Control public access and exit to and from events
  • Assist with any audience participation activities
  • Provide support to guest speakers along with an AV/IT Assistant to ensure the smooth running of events
  • Report to Building Managers and assist with other duties as required
  • Be responsible for the distribution and collection of event evaluation forms
  • Assist with the setup and pack down of your allocated venue
  • Ensure people adhere to COVID-19 regulations set by the British Science Festival

Terms & conditions

The Event Assistant will be working at the British Science Festival in Leicester between 13-17 September 2022. Please note that the responsibilities of this role are provisional and are subject to change in alignment with COVID-19 regulations.

The assignment is offered at a salary of £9.90 per hour. You will be allocated no less than 6 hours per day. Your core hours will be scheduled between 09:00-22:00 on the De Montfort  University Campus, for four or five days (including up to a one-hour unpaid lunch/dinner break per day, depending on hours worked). If successful, your hours will be fully outlined in your offer letter.  

The training day on Friday 9 September will be paid at the above rate and the BSA will reimburse reasonable travel costs incurred in attending the training day. 

The BSA will not be covering travel, accommodation, or subsistence costs for the duration of the Festival, but can provide information about accommodation, if required.
