I’m Gill Riches, Director of Programmes.

I lead the British Science Association's Education, Community Engagement, The Ideas Fund and Festival teams. The programmes that these involve include CREST Awards, the British Science Festival, the UK Science Festivals Network, The Ideas Fund and our collection of Community Engagement programmes which are for communities underrepresented in science and research.

I’m passionate about creating opportunities for communities and young people to be able to engage with science and research on their terms and on topics which are relevant to them. I’m always keen to hear about new ways of doing this so do get in touch if you’d like to discuss this.

Amy MacLaren, Director of External Relations; portrait photo of woman with light brown hair smiling at the camera wearing a red top

I'm Amy MacLaren, Director of External Relations.

The External Relations Department (comprising Communications and Policy, Partnerships and Impact) focuses on increasing awareness of, and support for, the organisation – our mission, vision and values – and our work amongst key stakeholders, partners and sponsors. We are responsible for the BSA’s brand and reputation and policy and influencing.

I am involved in many projects and programmes across the organisation and interested in how all these components can be communicated with and understood by stakeholders as more than the sum of their parts.

I am passionate about continuing our learning and progress on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and finding ways to raise up missing voices and engage underrepresented audiences or minoritised groups in our decision-making and external relations activities.

I am also the Senior Management Team ‘sponsor’ for our Heritage & Identity review, ethics, sustainability and disability – so if you’re interested in finding out more about these areas, please let me know.
