Applications for British Science Week 2018 grants are now open. There are different types of funding available for people to apply for, depending on the organisation they're a part of and the audience they work with. 

Community Grants

This grant scheme aims to recognise the expertise of community leaders in working with their local audiences. These are perfect for those who work in a community group, club, or organisation.

Two levels of funding are available:

1. £500 to run one or more events during British Science Week (9 – 18 March 2018)
2. Up to £1000 to run one or more events during British Science Week, as well as follow-up activities that will lead to continued engagement

A British Science Week community event

To be eligible, applicants must represent a community-based group or organisation that works directly with audiences who are traditionally underrepresented and currently not engaged in science activity, including those who:

• are Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME)
• have low socio-economic status (SES), including people disadvantaged in education and income
• are young people facing adversity, including those not in education, employment or training (NEET)
• have a disability, defined as a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and longterm effect on someone’s ability to do normal daily activities (Equalities Act 2010)
• live in a remote and rural location, defined as settlements of less than 10,000 people
• are girls and women

Kick Start Grants

This grant scheme is for eligible schools to put on events for students, parents and the wider community, including other schools in the area.

Two levels of funding are available:

1. Up to £300 for school organised events
2. Up to £700 for school organised events involving students and the local community

BSA Branch Grants

This grant scheme is to support our volunteer branches running local events for new audiences during British Science Week.

BSA branches can apply for up to £1000 to run one or more science events during British Science Week. Priority will be given to proposals that will engage local communities who are underrepresented or do not usually engage with science activity, as listed in the bullet points above.

Please note that this grant is only available to British Science Association branches.
