BSA announces partnership with Kids Company The British Science Association (BSA) is delighted to be partnering with Kids Company, a children’s charity that provides emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people.The BSA is organising a flagship event for British Science Week (13 – 22 March) – a science show by presenter Matthew Tosh, in partnership with the Science Museum – for over 400 children from Kids Company’s London Centres.The show aims to be a first introduction to the fun, creativity and wonder of science for children who wouldn’t have access to such opportunities. The BSA wants to increase and diversify the amount of people who participate in and enjoy science. We want to ensure that all young people are excited by and comfortable with science – not just those who go on to study it. Partnerships with organisations like Kids Company are an important way for the BSA to show how creative, enjoyable and easily accessible science can be to young people from all backgrounds. Kids Company was founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh in 1996. Its services reach 36,000 children across London, Bristol and Liverpool, including the most deprived and at risk whose parents are unable to care for them due to their own practical and emotional challenges. These are exceptionally vulnerable children who not only negotiate significant challenges in their family homes, but also face immense threat within their neighbourhoods. Often they are exposed to relentless violence, some are forced into working as drug couriers or prostitutes, and many experience chronic abuse.Kids Company provides a safe, caring, family environment where support is tailored to the needs of each individual. Our services and support empower children who have experienced enormous challenges to lead positive and fulfilling lives.
