JOB TITLE: AV/IT Assistant (British Science Festival)

DURATION: 10-13 September 2019, plus one Training Day on Friday 6 September.

CORE HOURS: Hours will be assigned between the core hours of 09:00- 20:00 and will be confirmed on appointment.

The British Science Festival is Europe’s longest standing science Festival, travelling to a different place in the United Kingdom each year. The British Science Association is recruiting AV/IT Assistants to work during the British Science Festival 2019. The Festival will be held in Coventry city centre and the University of Warwick from 10-13 September 2019, hosted by the University of Warwick. This role is based at the University of Warwick Campus.

The AV/IT Assistants will work with guest speakers to ensure that all audio-visual and IT components of their event run smoothly. Working alongside an Event Assistant, you will work at several different events each day.

Job description

Main duties

  • Assist speakers and event organisers with the set-up of their AV (audio-visual equipment) and IT before the event
  • Work with an Event Assistant to provide support to the guest speaker and audience throughout the event
  • Complete an evaluation of the event
  • Assist with the set-up and pack-down of your allocated venue
  • Ensure that all equipment is left in good working order

Person specification

Essential

  • Good IT skills and competent with technology
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An ability to stay calm under pressure, show initiative and solve problems under pressure
  • An ability to work flexibly
  • Good level of spoken English

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Coventry & Warwickshire
  • Experience working with AV technical equipment

Terms and conditions

The AV/IT Assistants will be working at the British Science Festival on the University of Warwick Campus between 10 -13 September 2019.

The assignment is offered at a salary of £9.00 per hour. You will be allocated no less than 6 hours per day. Your core hours will be scheduled between 09:00-20:00 on the University of Warwick Campus, for four days (including up to a one-hour unpaid lunch/dinner break per day, depending on hours worked). If successful, your hours will be fully outlined in your offer letter.

The training day on Friday 6 September will be paid at the above rate and the BSA will reimburse reasonable travel costs incurred in attending the training day.

The BSA can provide information about accommodation on site for the duration of the Festival if required.
