It is with great sadness that the Trustees and staff of the British Science Association heard the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8 September 2022.

Her Majesty has been a valued Patron of the British Science Association since her coronation in 1953, and has offered vital support for the charity throughout her reign.

As recently as last year, Her Majesty hosted a special online event as part of British Science Week, where she joined a group of schoolchildren from Thomas Jones Primary School, as well as the BSA’s President, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, to celebrate the role that science, technology, engineering and maths plays in UK society. Her enthusiasm and support at that event was one of the highlights of last year’s annual British Science Week.

Staff and supporters of the BSA have attended the annual garden parties at Buckingham Palace for decades – a valued acknowledgement from Her Majesty of the work of our organisation.

Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.
