About Youth Insights Data

The British Science Association has set up a new section of its website to display key findings on our work gauging youth perspectives since 2019. The new website section displays key findings about:

  • How well science has served both young people and our society
  • Young people's connection, and engagement with science
  • Topics of importance to young people

This webpage explains methodology behind the British Science Association's work on amalgamating our youth polling data.

Methodology

The data in this project was collected via national polling results run by the British Science Association as part of the Future Forum surveys between 2019 and 2023. The data from the surveys were combined together and analysed.

Each survey polled either 1,000 or 2,000 young people aged 14-18 in the UK. Young people were polled on a variety of topics related to their knowledge, understanding and attitudes towards science.

Results for each survey included demographic breakdowns (where available) by age, gender, region and ethnicity. To succinctly present what young people think about topics that matter to them, the main demographic criteria that has been prioritised in this iteration of the BSA’s Youth Voice analysis has been age and gender.

The results in this page aim to summarise those survey results. Where identical questions existed across several surveys, the results have been combined to give overall results for the 2019-2023 period.
