CREST Bronze
Find out who’s the fittest in your class
To get started you should do some research (you might like to ask your PE teacher for some help with this). Try to explain what ‘fit’ and ‘fitness’ mean and find out what a ‘pulse rate’ is and how you can measure this.
Secondly, you need to pick a group of people to test. You could test:
- your class at school
- a sports team (if you play football or netball, for example, you might want to test your team mates)
- all girls, all boys, or a mixture of both
- people of different age groups.
Your task is to find out how fit they are by measuring their baseline level of fitness.
CREST Silver
Design, make and test a device to measure the steadiness of somebody’s hand and factors that affect it
The first thing you have to do is make something to test people’s performance. The device you’re going to make is an electronic ‘wire course’. You’ve probably seen one before – they’re pieces of wire bent into a wiggly shape. You have to navigate a metal hoop around the ‘wire course’ without touching it; if you do, a buzzer sounds or a light turns on.
CREST Gold
