CREST Bronze
Investigate which types of studs give footballers the best grip and why
For this project you will look at different styles of studs on football boots to see which ones are best. You will design and carry out tests that show you how well different studs ‘grip’ to the ground. This is needed so that footballers don’t slip over all the time.
CREST Silver
Investigate what affects people’s penalty taking ability
For this project you’re going to set up an experiment to see how easily people can hit a target with a football. You’re then going to vary different factors to see what effect it has on performance. You could change the project, if you like, to another task such as scoring baskets in netball, or throwing darts at a target.
CREST Gold
Design and make a pair of shin pads
Shin pads are essential bits of kit when playing football. Most referees won’t let you start a game if you’re not wearing them. They can save a lot of potentially nasty injuries. They have to be strong but they also have to be lightweight. Carry out some research into shin pad design to find out how they’re currently made; then design, make and test a new pair of shin pads.
