"I'd like to say, on behalf of the Royal Society's Vision for Science and Mathematics Education project a huge thank you to all the young people from the CREST Youth Panel, Looking 20 years into the future is a tough call but they all joined in the spirit of the session and came up with some fascinating and thought-provoking ideas for what they'd like to see an inspiring science and maths education system deliver in the future. Just take a look at the Manifesto that they came up with and which we will reflect in our consultation with policymakers and teachers in the coming months. I'm delighted that we had the chance to involve young people in the Vision project - and it's not over yet, as many will stay in touch and contribute further. " Juliet Upton - Project Leader, Vision for Science and Mathematics Education, The Royal Society
"The Youth Panel Meeting in March 2011 provided invaluable feedback, a unique insight into young peoples’ perceptions, interpretations and understanding of science communication. This was critical to steering the communications for promoting the National Science + Engineering Competition at The Big Bang Fair" Jeremy Buckle- Event Director, Big Bang Education CIC
“The user feedback was extremely important for us in terms of re-launching our new website as the student voice which we received from the CREST Youth Panel as well as from a number of school focus groups allowed us to justify the decisions for change with the Science Council Board members and all comments from the Youth Panel were taken on board and put into practice within the new website design if appropriate. Future Morph must have regular updates from the student voice in order to be successful so we were extremely grateful to be given the opportunity that we had in March with CREST and hope to be able to run similar sessions in future.” Holly Margerison – Future Morph (Science Council)
"I was really pleased to get the opportunity to ask the students on the CREST youth panel for their advice on a new set of teaching materials I am planning to produce as part of an EC funded project that will start next year. I wanted to know what area of science and technology in the developing world they felt would be most interesting as a starting point for a new CREST challenge and/or for science lessons. They put a lot of thought into it and I was really impressed with them. It was really useful to be able to get that kind of input from students of different ages and different schools. I can’t wait to share the materials with them all at a later date."
Julie Brown - Education Manager, Practical Action
"It was a pleasure to meet with the Crest Award Youth Panel. The students involved supplied us with valuable information regarding the content, layout and navigation of Gocracker. There have been a number of ideas for improving the website as a result of the discussion and we are hoping to implement them in the very near future." Sophie Ibbotson - Go Cracker Marketing and Communications
"Many thanks for the interesting and intelligent comments from CREST. We really appreciated the young people taking the time to give us their thoughts. It helped us confirm the most appropriate and effective wording and imagery for our promotional banners." Liz Kettle -Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WEST) Co-ordinator
